Come for the mushrooms\, stay for the music\, and drift deep into the night. 🍄✨\n\nBanshee Tree starts at 8:30PM\n\nBanshee Tree’s roots run deep. An indie psychedelic pop/rock band with sharply-written songs\, jazz inspired solos\, saxophone textures and grooves that nod to the dance floor\, they’ve spent nearly a decade evolving their sound. That fusion reaches a new peak with&nbsp\;Bad Luck\, a restless and unapologetically diverse album that captures a critically-acclaimed band chasing down new horizons. Combining their strength as a live act with an experimental approach in the recording studio\,&nbsp\;Bad Luck&nbsp\;makes room for the full range of Banshee Tree’s influences\, from the layered soundscapes of the instrumental track “Stellar Jay Theme” to the anthemic\, festival friendly folk pop of “Bright Blue Light.” It’s a wide mix\, glued together by a band of Colorado based songwriters who’ve always embraced the grey areas between genres. They’ve played everywhere- jam festivals\, EDM bills and bluegrass shows with genre benders like Leftover Salmon and The Infamous Stringdusters- and&nbsp\;Bad Luck&nbsp\;celebrates that history while pushing toward a new future.&nbsp\;\n\nThis Event is FREE for attendees and $10 for non-pass holders at the door.\n\n

SUMMARY:Welcome to the 46th Telluride Mushroom Festival: Let's Rewild!
DESCRIPTION:This presentation will introduce you to a little bit of what to expect from this year's Festival ...and will give you a glimpse of our past\, our founders and our visionaries who catalyzed this event which has become "the largest wild mushroom event in North America." I will also introduce this year's theme: Rewild.\n\nWhat is rewilding?\n\nRewilding has emerged over the past three decades as one of the most imaginative and ambitious movements in global conservation. At its core lies a radical but intuitive idea: ecosystems can regain their vitality\, complexity\, and self‑direction if the processes that once shaped them are restored. Rather than focusing solely on protecting individual species\, rewilding seeks to revive relationships—migration\, predation\, grazing\, disturbance\, succession—that allow landscapes to function as dynamic\, resilient systems. It is a shift from managing nature to enabling it\, from preservation to regeneration\, from static reserves to living\, evolving worlds.\n\nAlthough the term “rewilding” is relatively new\, the impulse behind it is ancient\, echoing Indigenous stewardship traditions that understood landscapes as reciprocal\, relational\, and alive. Today\, rewilding has become a global conversation\, taking different forms in different places\, shaped by local histories\, ecologies\, and cultural values...And FUNGI will play a HUGE role!\n\n\n\n

Bring a comfortable folding chair.&nbsp\;\n\nPsychedelic Elder Mycogourds Interview with Art Goodtimes and Dr. Michael Myhre at 10am-12pm at the Telluride Historical Museum courtyard \n\nModeled after the peer-to-peer sharing of graduate seminars\, the MycoGourds concept was inspired by the work of Colorado deep ecologist Dolores LaChapelle and Brazilian socialist educator Paulo Freire. Dolores was a strong advocate of sharing circles for information-sharing -- as used in many traditions\, both ancient and new (such as Indigenous Councils and the Rainbow Family Gathering’s talking stick circles).\n\nCo-sponsored by the Telluride Institute's Telluride Mushroom Festival and the Telluride Historical Museum\, this MycoGourds will be a variation of the passing of the gourd format. After a brief sharing from everyone\, Art as facilitator will open the circle to questions of ethnobotanist Kat Harrison who will be our featured guest.

SUMMARY:Foray with Larry Evans
DESCRIPTION:Deep Secrets & Microhabitats: Using All Five Senses to ID Mushrooms&nbsp\;with Larry Evans\n\nStep into the forest with longtime TMF legend Larry Evans\, who has been leading forays in Telluride since before Know Your Mushrooms introduced the world to fungiphilia as the cure for fungiphobia. Larry’s approach is immersive\, sensory\, and full of story — don’t be surprised if an exciting mushroom (or a barrage of good questions) inspires him to break into song.\n\nThis foray dives into the microhabitats and hidden clues that reveal where fungi live\, partner\, and thrive. Larry brings a rare depth of knowledge about the habitats\, indicator species\, mining history\, and chemistry that shape this unique landscape. Every mushroom has a backstory\, and Larry has a way of bringing those stories to life.\n\nUsing all five senses\, you’ll learn how to observe the forest closely\, interpret subtle environmental signals\, and understand the relationships that guide mushroom identification. Expect equal parts science\, curiosity\, and joyful chaos — a true Larry Evans experience.\n\nWhere to Meet\nThis foray meets at Carhenge Parking Lot at 10:45 AM. We encourage you to arrive a little early to meet your foray leader and your fellow foragers. TMF does not provide transportation\, so carpooling is encouraged to help groups stay together.\n\nBe Prepared\nPlease come ready for changing mountain weather with:\nGood footwearWater and snacksLayers or rain gearA basket or paper bag for collecting mushroomsAll foray groups will have a First Aid–certified volunteer present.\n\nPre‑Sign Up Online\nSpace is limited — secure your spot online before festival week or at the Sign‑Up Tent the day before.\nDuring sign‑up\, you’ll acknowledge our Release from Liability\, Photo Release\, and Code of Conduct.&nbsp\;\n\nEach person may register for one foray and one special event.

SUMMARY:Beyond the Biomarker: Harnessing the Complexity of Functional Mushrooms
DESCRIPTION:As the functional mushroom industry grows\, one thing is becoming increasingly clear: mushrooms from the same species are not necessarily the same in function or chemistry. Across lion’s mane\, agarikon\, and turkey tail\, factors such as strain\, substrate\, tissue type\, and extraction method can meaningfully shape biological activity and functional outcomes.\n\nDrawing from fungal genomics\, metabolomics\, preclinical transcriptomics\, and emerging clinical evidence\, this presentation explores how fungal diversity functions not as inconsistency to be eliminated\, but as a blueprint for discovery and product innovation. Highlighting the first annotated genome of agarikon alongside a strain library of more than 125 agarikon isolates\, the talk examines how strain-level variation drives measurable differences in bioactive composition and downstream functional activity. \n\nIn both agarikon and turkey tail\, mycelial preparations demonstrate context-dependent activity supported by two placebo-controlled human clinical trials reporting concordant immune-supportive outcomes. Lion’s mane further serves as a model system for understanding how tissue type and extraction approach influence both immune and neuroactive properties.\n\nBut as mushroom chemistry becomes more deeply mapped\, a larger question emerges: when biomarkers don’t fully explain bioefficacy\, we may need to rethink what “functional” actually means for mushrooms. Rather than reducing fungi to single compounds or species-level assumptions\, this talk explores a systems-level view of mushrooms where biological complexity becomes a resource for discovery\, innovation\, and the rewilding of functional mushroom science.\n\nAll presentation in Transformation Studio are first come first serve. A line will be formed outside of Ah Haa for this presentation. There will be limited seats so please plan for a different event if this is full.\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Gasteromycetes of Colorado: Puffballs\, Earthstars\, Stinkhorns\, Earthballs & False Truffles Across Elevation and Habitat
DESCRIPTION:Colorado is gasteroid country. From shortgrass prairie to subalpine spruce–fir\, the state’s huge elevation range\, monsoon pulses\, and patchwork of forests\, dunes\, riparian corridors\, and even urban woodchips create an ideal map for “gasteromycetes”—puffballs\, earthstars\, stinkhorns\, earthballs\, and false truffles. While “gasteromycetes” isn’t a single modern clade\, the gasteroid strategy still matters: spores mature enclosed\, then disperse by wind\, rain splash\, trampling\, insects\, and mammals. In this talk\, we’ll use Colorado habitats as the organizing framework so you can predict which gasteroid guild you’re likely to find—then learn what to look for once you’re there.\n\nWe’ll start with puffballs as Colorado headliners\, covering simple anatomy (peridium\, gleba\, capillitium) and the essential safety rule: puffballs are edible only when the interior is uniformly white\, firm\, and homogeneous—plus how to avoid dangerous look-alikes by sectioning. You’ll learn an easy field ID approach to common groups (woodland Lycoperdon\, lawn Bovista\, giant Calvatia\, sand specialists like Disciseda\, and more) and how seasonality and disturbance shape where they appear. We’ll also explore earthstars as “desert origami\,” earthballs (Scleroderma) as a key cautionary group\, stinkhorns as insect-powered dispersal machines\, and false truffles and hypogeous allies (including conifer partners like Rhizopogon) as part of the underground network tied to wildlife and forest regeneration.\n\nYou’ll leave with a practical documentation checklist (photos\, notes\, habitat + elevation cues) and a new way to read Colorado landscapes through gasteroid fungi.

SUMMARY:“He saw a snake which told him ‘Turn your eyes and see your wife’.” Psychoactive mushrooms and plants in colonial period Mexican divination and healing with Bret Blosser
DESCRIPTION:This is a study of divination and healing practices in Mexico during the 17 th and 18 th centuries. The study is based on Inquisition documents\, a 1629 report on ritual practices\, and Inquisition edicts. Practitioners employed Psilocybe mushrooms\, peyote\, morning glory seeds\, and pipiltzintzintli (an unidentified plant) to access information and\nenable healing not available by other means. These methods were associated with indigenous people\, but were widely consulted and practiced by others\, ranging from Black slaves to Hispanic elites. The Church proclaimed the use of these fungi and plants to be evidence of a “pact with the devil” and attempted to extirpate the practices. Most of the divinations were performed to recover lost or stolen property. Others were undertaken to locate runaway wives\, identify bewitchers\, locate buried treasure\, and spy on a cheating boyfriend.\n\nAll presentation in Transformation Studio are first come first serve. SUMMARY:The Role of Psilocybin in Rewilding the Mind
DESCRIPTION:This workshop explores psilocybin as a catalyst for returning the human mind to a more natural\, unconditioned state—one less dominated by rigid patterns of thought and more attuned to intuition\, emotion\, and interconnectedness. Drawing from neuroscience\, psychology\, and indigenous perspectives\, it examines how psilocybin can temporarily dissolve habitual frameworks—such as ego fixation\, cultural conditioning\, and linear thinking—allowing deeper layers of perception to emerge.\n\n“Rewilding the mind” here refers not to regression\, but to restoration: a process of reclaiming cognitive flexibility\, sensory openness\, and a sense of belonging within the broader web of life. The piece considers how psilocybin may interrupt default neural pathways (like the default mode network)\, foster novel connections\, and promote states of awe\, humility\, and ecological awareness.\n\nAll presentation in Transformation Studio are first come first serve. SUMMARY:Medicinal Mushroom Extracts & Tinctures: From Kitchen Chemistry to Commercial Craft
DESCRIPTION:This hands-on workshop takes participants on a practical journey through the science and craft of functional mushroom extraction - from the compounds worth extracting\, to the solvents that reach them\, to the techniques used at every scale from home kitchen to commercial lab.\n\nLed by Shane of Mycolove\, the session covers dual-solvent extraction methodology\, the chemistry of beta-glucans and triterpenes\, how to evaluate product quality\, and what separates a meaningful extract from a marketing claim. Participants will build their own functional tincture during the workshop - one functional mushroom and one functional herb - leaving with both a finished product and the understanding to make it again at home.\n\nThis is not a recipe class. It's a science class that ends with something you take home and use.

SUMMARY:Foray with Anthony Corbin
DESCRIPTION:Reading the Forest: A Habitat‑Based Mushroom Foray with Anthony Corbin\n\nJoin Anthony Corbin for a foray focused on learning to read the landscape as deeply as the mushrooms themselves. Anthony’s teaching style centers on understanding habitat\, indicator species\, and the plants and trees that host the fungal partners we’re often searching for. Rather than chasing a single target mushroom\, this walk teaches you how to recognize the environmental clues that lead you to them.\n\nThroughout the foray\, Anthony will share practical tools for observing forests: how to spot allies and indicators\, how to interpret the conditions that favor certain fungi\, and how to use host plants as guides. These skills aren’t just useful for this outing — they’re designed to help you confidently explore any environment in the future.\n\nParticipants will also learn key features and identification traits commonly used in field guides\, building a foundation that supports both beginners and experienced foragers alike.\n\nWhere to Meet\nThis foray meets at Carhenge Parking Lot at 7:45 AM. SUMMARY:Foray with Sebastian Tabibi
DESCRIPTION:From Peak to Creek: A Full-Spectrum Mycology with Sebastian Tabibi\n\nStep into the diverse wildlands of the San Juan Mountains with Sebastian Tabibi for a guided exploration of Telluride’s most prolific fungal habitats. This foray follows the natural flow of the landscape\, beginning in the high-elevation coniferous forests—where spruce and fir dominate—before descending into the lush\, bottomland riparian zones along the valley’s waterways.\n\nThroughout the trek\, Sebastian will provide a comprehensive look at each species encountered\, moving beyond simple names to discuss:\n\n1. Identity: Clear differentiation of edibility\, toxins\, and lookalikes.
\n2. Edibility: Exploring the potential edibility\, toxins\, or medicinal properties of each species.
\n3. Ecology: How fungi interact with their environment and the various roles they have in nature.
\n4. Phenology: Identifying the specific habitats and seasonal windows for foraging.
\n5. Ethnobotany: The practical\, historical\, and modern usages of fungi for humans.
\n\nLearn exactly when and where to find these species\, how they function in the wild\, and how humans can practically utilize them. We’ll finish our expedition with a Final Specimen Discussion\, examining our finds at the end of the journey to better understand the profound importance of the biodiversity surrounding Telluride.\n\nWhere to Meet\nThis foray meets at Carhenge Parking Lot at 7:15AM. SUMMARY:Foray with Christopher Vinci
DESCRIPTION:Biosonification with&nbsp\;Christopher Vinci\n\nThis guided foray is designed to feel like stepping into a living classroom\, but one where curiosity leads the way and everyone is part of the experience. Together\, we will explore Telluride’s high elevation environments\, searching for native mushroom species while discussing how to recognize them\, where they grow\, and what they are doing within the ecosystem.\n\nRather than a lecture\, this is a collaborative walk through the forest. Questions are encouraged\, observations are shared\, and the goal is to learn from both the landscape and each other. Whether you are new to mycology or have spent time in the field\, there is space here to engage at your own level and build on what you already know.\n\nA unique part of this foray includes the use of a pocket sized biosonification device called the Scion. This tool allows us to listen to subtle electrical activity from fungi and surrounding plant life\, offering a different way to experience the organisms we are studying. It is a moment to slow down\, reflect\, and connect more deeply with the environment.\n\nParticipants can expect a balance of hands on learning\, open discussion\, and immersive exploration. The focus is not just on identification\, but on building a deeper understanding of fungi as part of a larger living system\, all while enjoying the process together in the field.\n\nWhere to Meet\nThis foray meets at Carhenge Parking Lot at 9:15AM.

SUMMARY:Relational Intelligence\, not Artificial Intelligence: Embodying the Fungal Wisdom of Connection
DESCRIPTION:Beneath the forest floor\, ancient wisdom is at work - inviting us to learn its ways. Fungi silently work their magic\, weaving vast mycelial networks—living systems of exchange\, communication\, and mutual support. In this engaging and interactive talk\, we’ll explore what fungi—the master connectors of the forest—can teach us about human relationships.\n\nThis talk is an invitation to rewild the way we connect. To step out of overly managed\, over-performed social habits—and remember a more instinctive\, embodied way of relating. One that’s less about getting it right\, and more about being real. Less transactional\, more alive. \n\nDrawing inspiration from the fungal kingdom and grounded in the practices of Authentic Relating\, we’ll explore how to build more mycelial relationships to each other and the world around us. \nThis isn’t about becoming better at networking. It’s about remembering how to belong. Participants will gain a new perspective on how to cultivate relationships that are nourishing\, adaptive\, and deeply rooted.\n\nRewild your relational intelligence and transform your social ecosystem the way fungi connect and transform the web of life around us.\n\nAll presentation in Transformation Studio are first come first serve. SUMMARY:Women of Psychedelics
DESCRIPTION:During this psychedelic renaissance of the 21st century\, psychedelics are being celebrated for their ability to help change our minds\, illuminate the world\, and discover what we have forgotten. In a field that stands for expanded consciousness\, ironically\, women have been occluded\, devalued\, and minimized from the psychedelic stories we like to tell about ourselves. We’ve all heard of beloved Maria Sabina\, but did you know that lab assistant Susie Ramstein biked home with Albert Hofmann on April 19\, 1943 and guided him through the trip? This presentation will bring to life women who have been described as lovers\, muses\, accomplices\, or assistants. Steering women’s voices forward is necessary for recognizing barriers to participation\, developing more inclusive frameworks\, and recognizing differences in experience of psychedelics. The genuine inclusion of women’s perspectives in psychedelics can help reveal patterns of consciousness that become embraced rather than subdued.

SUMMARY:BIPOC Community Gathering: Opening Circle & Connection
DESCRIPTION:The Telluride Mushroom Festival has long been a place where people gather to celebrate fungi\, science\, art\, education\, and community. This year\, the festival is piloting a BIPOC (Black\, Indigenous\, and People of Color) Community Gathering Space to help foster connection\, belonging\, and long-term participation within the mycological community.\nThis gathering is a BIPOC affinity space created for Black\, Indigenous\, and People of Color attendees seeking connection\, reflection\, and community with others who share similar lived experiences. While many festival events are open to everyone\, this space has been intentionally created to support BIPOC participants.\nThe purpose is to provide an opportunity for connection\, conversation\, and community among attendees who share experiences of navigating mycology\, conservation\, outdoor spaces\, and environmental fields from historically underrepresented backgrounds.\nWe also warmly welcome BIPOC members of the Telluride community and surrounding region. Recognizing the many Indigenous\, Latin American\, and other cultural traditions that have shaped our relationship with fungi\, we hope this gathering helps community members feel seen\, welcomed\, and connected throughout the festival.\nThe space will include an anonymous reflection box where participants may share thoughts\, questions\, stories\, hopes\, challenges\, words of encouragement\, or reflections from their festival experience.\nWhether someone chooses to engage in conversation\, seek community\, share a story\, contribute a reflection\, or simply sit quietly with a cup of tea\, they are welcome.\n\n

SUMMARY:The Truffle Orchard Ecosystem: From Soil to the Scent of Success
DESCRIPTION:Truffle cultivation is equal parts ecology\, patience\, and precision. In this talk\, we’ll demystify what it actually takes to grow truffles in North American landscapes—starting with the core relationship that makes truffles possible: a healthy host tree partnered with a thriving mycorrhizal network. We’ll walk through the foundational building blocks of a successful truffle orchard\, including site selection\, soil texture and drainage\, pH and mineral balance\, irrigation strategy\, and the long game of root health and orchard maturation.\n\nWe’ll also zoom into the living soil: bacteria\, fungi\, micro-arthropods\, and the underground food web that supports truffle formation and the aroma chemistry that signals truffle maturity. You’ll learn what “orchard function” looks like in the field—how to read tree vigor\, groundcover\, soil structure\, and seasonal patterns—and how to troubleshoot common challenges such as weak colonization\, drought stress\, compaction\, nutrient lockups\, and competing fungal communities.\n\nThis session also offers an industry-facing update through the lens of the North American Truffle Growers Association (NATGA)\, which has been advancing truffle cultivation in the U.S. for more than a decade. Each year\, NATGA grows its list of successfully producing orchards through dissemination of ideas and practices\, rigorous scientific research\, and collaboration with growers and researchers around the globe. I update this presentation annually with new and improved data informed by these collective efforts—so attendees leave with a clear\, current framework for truffle cultivation as a whole ecosystem: where success comes from building resilient soils and relationships\, not shortcuts.

SUMMARY:Mushroom Ceremony & Underwater Journey at the Dawn of Mixtec Civilization: Readings from an Ancient Mexican Pictorial Manuscript
DESCRIPTION:Mushroom Ceremony & Underwater Journey at the Dawn of Mixtec Civilization: Readings from an Ancient Mexican Pictorial Manuscript\n\nJoin Bret Blosser to discuss images from an ancient Mixtec painted manuscript\, the Vienna Codex\, which illustrate a Psilocybe mushroom ceremony attended by nine deities engaged in the foundation of Mixtec civilization. I’ll draw on images from several codices\, archeological evidence\, ethnohistoric records\, and my ethnographic fieldwork to interpret the role of mushroom ceremony in ancient Mixtec life. The images are well executed and colorful. I’ll discuss Mesoamerican strategies of visual communication and principles of ceremonial practice. Please note: blood sacrifice is fundamental to ancient Mexican ceremonialism. I will present a few painted images of blood sacrifice which could be experienced as disturbing.\n\n

SUMMARY:Entheogenic Mycolotry and Ethnomycology of Mesoamerica
DESCRIPTION:As a subfield of Ethnobotany or Ethnobiology\, Ethnomycology focuses on the roles and relationships of fungi within the human experience. Mesoamerican cultures and their association with sacred mushrooms from the genus Psilocybe are both fascinating as well as mysterious and hold an essential role in the evolution of Ethnomycology. Our current psychedelic renaissance owes a huge debt to ancient sacred practices held by numerous indigenous groups around the world. This talk will focus on indigenous Mesoamerican spiritual and cultural uses of entheogenic mushrooms\, many from the genus Psilocybe. Much of my emphasis will explore past research done by R. Gordon and Valentina Wasson and other pioneers in Ethnomycology. We will also examine the importance of Maria Sabina\, her sacred mushroom ceremony\, and Velada.

SUMMARY:Hidden Connections: Fungi\, Invasive Plants\, and the Future of Forests
DESCRIPTION:Mycorrhizal fungi underpin native plant communities globally\, forming symbioses that improve plant access to essential nutrients. Via these symbioses\, mycorrhizal fungi can also underpin plant invasions. Plant invasions are a multi-stage process\, from establishment\, spread\, ecological impacts\, and subsequent rewilding\, in which mycorrhizal fungi play crucial and distinct roles. Unpacking these roles is critical for developing effective management strategies\, especially as global increases in plant invasions threaten native biodiversity. This presentation explores the roles of mycorrhizal fungi in plant invasions\, drawing on a current study investigating the invasion of Monterey Pine (Pinus radiata) into native Eucalypt forests in Tasmania\, Australia.

SUMMARY:Mycological Skills For The Apocalypse
DESCRIPTION:A deep dive into the survival potential of working with fungi when modern systems fail. This presentation explores ingenious low‑tek methods for pasteurization and sterilization without reliance on natural gas or electricity. We will look at how agricultural waste and other obscure substrates can be transformed into reliable food sources\, and how you can utilize the 'waste' produced by your mushroom cultivation endeavors. We will also discuss how you can produce your own antibiotics and medicines in resource‑scarce environments. Beyond food and health\, we’ll discuss the resilience of fungal networks\, their ability to regenerate soils\, filter water\, and provide sustainable materials when conventional supply chains collapse. This talk is both a practical guide and a visionary manifesto for how mycological knowledge can empower communities to adapt\, survive\, and thrive in a post‑apocalyptic world.

SUMMARY:Hidden Figures in Mycology & Black and Brown: The New My(e)cologists with Maya Han
DESCRIPTION:Join Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary artist\, writer\, and filmmaker\, Maya Han\, for an hour together showcasing the&nbsp\;"Hidden Figures of Mycology" where we will share a screening of her film&nbsp\;Black and Brown: The New My(e)cologists&nbsp\;along with snippets from her New York Myco Film Fest&nbsp\;and Q&A about this emerging movement in mycology.\nMaya's works give visibility to hidden histories\, with recent projects focused on the natural sciences\, environmental justice\, and ecofeminism. She is an awardee of the 2026 New York State Council on the Arts NYSCA Artist Grant and 2024 Puffin Environmental Arts Grant\, and her work has been presented internationally at spaces including the Harlem Film Festival\, New York NY\; Rencontres Internationales\, Paris/Berlin\; The National Museum of Women in the Arts\, Washington DC\; and the Busan International Film Festival\, South Korea.Maya Han\,&nbsp\;Black and Brown: The New My(e)cologists&nbsp\;25 min.Fungi are foundational to our planet\, literally buttressing the entire earth through their extensive underground mycelial networks. Mycology\, or the study of fungi\, has traditionally been associated with (Northern) Europe where it is a recent discipline and one that has benefitted from\, yet eclipsed or erased\, Indigenous and African diasporic cultures’ long and rich histories with the fungal kingdom — histories which span millennia and embrace the scientific\, culinary\, medicinal\, and shamanistic. This short documentary recenters the gaze back on Black relationships with nature via the fungal world. This world\, unlike the green realm of plants that photosynthesize\, is characterized by the brown — the rich\, dark\, loamy soil and umber-y tree bark in or on which many fungi dwell\, to the brown melanin most mushrooms contain\, as well as the colloquial term for common cap-and-stem LBMs\, or “little brown mushrooms”.\nBlack and Brown: The New My(e)cologists&nbsp\;spotlights\, in intimate and poignant portraits\, the exciting citizen science and eco-activism of three American women trailblazers of African and Caribbean heritage — Journei Bimwala\, Maria Pinto\, and Maren Fossi — who are restoring myco-cultural histories and changing the ways we access\, study\, and think about nature and fungi.\n

Shot on location at TMF 2023.Joel Penner\, Wrought&nbsp\;18 min\nThe award winning short film Wrought (2022) will be intro'd by the film's co-director\, photographer and editor Joel Penner. Wrought begins with the most basic of problems: despite all our best efforts\, food goes bad. Instead of turning away in disgust\, this film invites us to zoom in and take a closer look. Wrought tells a larger story about the limiting binary categories we humans create for ourselves. It explores (and challenges) terms like spoil\, ferment\, compost and rot as it coaxes us to decompose our binary categories: good and bad\, self and other\, human and nonhuman\, nature and culture. As the film title implies\, we are all forged out of the relationships that transgress such binaries\; we are all\, indeed\, wrought.\nMaya Han\, "Hidden Figures of Mycology" A Preview From the New York Myco Film Fest&nbsp\;25&nbsp\;min\nMaya Han will showcase some TBA favorites and speak about her Films in the New York Myco Film Fest.&nbsp\;\nMaya Han is a Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary artist\, writer\, and filmmaker whose works give visibility to hidden histories\, with recent projects focused on the natural sciences\, environmental justice\, and ecofeminism.&nbsp\;\n\nGiuliana Furci\,&nbsp\;The Mushroom Keepers&nbsp\;16 min&nbsp\;\nFungi Foundation’s first documentary on ethnomycology in India serves as both a reflection on cultural erosion and a call to action for fungal and biodiversity conservation. SUMMARY:Keynote Presentation: Gabrielle Cerberville: Conversations with Fungi: Gathering as Embodied Listening
DESCRIPTION:Conversations With Fungi is a provocative and deeply grounded talk that asks what “conversation” could mean beyond the strictures of human language. Blending mycology\, philosophy\, and embodied foraging practice\, Gabrielle Cerberville explores fungi as relationship partners -- beings that challenge our ideas of individuality\, intelligence\, and separateness through networks of sensing\, exchange\, and entanglement. Drawing from her book Gathered: On Foraging\, Feasting\, and the Seasonal Life and her ongoing PhD research at the University of Virginia\, she reframes listening as a lived practice of attention and responsibility\, inviting audiences to move from extraction toward reciprocity\, and to ask what it might mean to live as if we’re already in conversation with more-than-human worlds.

SUMMARY:Foray with Sebastian Tabibi
DESCRIPTION:Where Aspen Meets Alpine: Exploring Telluride's Fungal Biodiversity with Sebastian Tabibi\nWhile the soaring subalpine peaks hold their ancient giants and the low river valleys cradle lush riparian life\, the true alchemy of the San Juan Mountains unfolds in the spaces between—where these distinct worlds collide. Join mycologist Sebastian Tabibi to decode the region’s fungal biodiversity as we explore its rich\, transitional "edges." Here\, sun-drenched aspen groves\, vibrant montane meadows\, and dense coniferous forests weave into a high-contrast tapestry\, creating environmental ecotones that serve as absolute hotbeds for fungal life.\nWe will track how fungal communities shift across these ecological boundaries\, training our eyes to read the topography and tree associations that dictate exactly where prized and unusual fungi emerge. Throughout the trek\, Sebastian will break down each find through five core pillars:\nTaxonomy & Morphology: Mastering subtle physical characteristics to confidently separate choice edibles from toxic lookalikes.Understanding Ecological Roles: Fungi are the primary architects of the ecosystem\, operating behind the scenes to sustain forest health. In this segment\, we move beyond identification to explore the critical functions that fungi perform in the wild.Toxicity & Dangerous Species: Learning to recognize the critical toxic mushrooms of the region and identifying the specific species that foragers must strictly avoid. In this segment\, we focus on safety by breaking down the physiological effects of fungal toxins and the key warning signs of dangerous lookalikes.Phenological Rhythms: Learning to interpret the language of the mountains—from the slope's exposure to the sun to the moisture in the soil—to decode the hidden timing of the forest's flushes.Benefits to Humans: Exploring the historical and modern uses of fungi\, from traditional wilderness utility to contemporary wellness. Our exploration culminates in a curated Specimen Table Talk. By conducting a side-by-side comparative analysis of our collective finds\, we will sharpen your critical field-identification skills and ground you in the interconnected rhythms of nature.\nCome prepared to slow down\, observe the subtle shifts in the landscape\, and follow the path of being a "spore in the wind."\n\nWhere to Meet\nThis foray meets at Carhenge Parking Lot at 7:15AM.

SUMMARY:Foray with Anthony Corbin
DESCRIPTION:Reading the Forest: A Habitat‑Based Mushroom Foray with Anthony Corbin\nJoin Anthony Corbin for a foray focused on learning to read the landscape as deeply as the mushrooms themselves. These skills aren’t just useful for this outing — they’re designed to help you confidently explore any environment in the future.\n\nParticipants will also learn key features and identification traits commonly used in field guides\, building a foundation that supports both beginners and experienced foragers alike.\n\nWhere to Meet\nThis foray meets at Carhenge Parking Lot at 8:45AM. SUMMARY:Foray with Christopher Vinci
DESCRIPTION:Alpine Ascent Foray: Waterfalls\, Fungi\, and High Country Views with Christopher Vinci\n\nThis moderate foray combines a scenic alpine hike with hands on field learning focused on fungi\, lichen\, and high elevation ecology. We will hike approximately one mile into a beautiful mountain setting\, moving through changing terrain that offers both striking views and diverse microhabitats to study along the way.\n\nAs we make our way to the site\, we will take time to observe how shifts in elevation\, moisture\, and substrate influence what we find. Participants will be introduced to practical field identification techniques for common mushroom species as well as lichen\, with an emphasis on recognizing key visual traits\, growth patterns\, and habitat associations.\n\nOnce we reach the main area\, we will slow down and spend time working through specimens together. This is an interactive and collaborative experience where participants are encouraged to engage\, share observations\, and build confidence in their identification skills. We will also cover how to properly document findings using iNaturalist\, including taking useful field photos\, recording key details\, and contributing observations that support broader citizen science efforts. Participants will leave with a better understanding of how their time in the field can contribute to real ecological data and ongoing research.\n\nOnce we reach the main area\, we will slow down and spend time working through specimens together. SUMMARY:BIPOC Community Closing
DESCRIPTION:&nbsp\;The Telluride Mushroom Festival has long been a place where people gather to celebrate fungi\, science\, art\, education\, and community. Recognizing the many Indigenous\, Latin American\, and other cultural traditions that have shaped our relationship with fungi\, we hope this gathering helps community members feel seen\, welcomed\, and connected throughout the festival.\nThe space will include an anonymous reflection box where participants may share thoughts\, questions\, stories\, hopes\, challenges\, words of encouragement\, or reflections from their festival experience.\nWhether someone chooses to engage in conversation\, seek community\, share a story\, contribute a reflection\, or simply sit quietly with a cup of tea\, they are welcome.\n

SUMMARY:Mini Mush Film Fest!
DESCRIPTION:NCY Milky Band\, Magic Mushroom 3:35min\nA fun Intro...\n\nHamilton Pevec\, Fest In Show (Remastered)&nbsp\;25 min\nCompetitive mushroom costume making reaches uncharted territory when a new rival enters the scene. Vicious competition meets hand crafted art in this twisted documentary film. Featuring the "unbeatable" costume team: Jessica Langley\, Ben Kinsely and Riitta Ikonen. As the film title implies\, we are all forged out of the relationships that transgress such binaries\; we are all\, indeed\, wrought.\nMaya Han\, "Hidden Figures of Mycology" A Preview From the New York Myco Film Fest 25&nbsp\;min\nMaya Han will showcase some TBA favorites and speak about her Films in the New York Myco Film Fest.&nbsp\;\nMaya Han is a Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary artist\, writer\, and filmmaker whose works give visibility to hidden histories\, with recent projects focused on the natural sciences\, environmental justice\, and ecofeminism.&nbsp\;\n\nGiuliana Furci\,&nbsp\;The Mushroom Keepers&nbsp\;16 min&nbsp\;\nFungi Foundation’s first documentary on ethnomycology in India serves as both a reflection on cultural erosion and a call to action for fungal and biodiversity conservation. By exploring the essential connections between fungi and the Khasi and Garo communities of Meghalaya\, this film challenges viewers to reconsider their relationship with the natural world and invites us all to become stewards of the ancestral knowledge accumulated over generations.\n

SUMMARY:Lithuania: Where Fungi Have Their Own TV Show and Some Woods Are Left to Turn Into Ancient Forest
DESCRIPTION:Lithuania may not be the only mushroom-loving country\, but it is one of the very few places where fungi have made it all the way onto national television in a dedicated TV show. Every autumn\, mushroom season can feel like a collective migration into the woods - families arrive with baskets\, inherited knowledge\, strong opinions\, and a set of unwritten rules about how to move through the forest. In some regions\, these practices are recognized as intangible cultural heritage: an old bond with forests that has persisted even as recent decades increasingly treated woods mainly as timber. &nbsp\;\n\nAurelija Plukė (creator and host of Lithuania’s only TV show devoted solely to mushrooms and the fungal world) shares stories from a truly mycophilic culture\, including unexpected folk-medicinal uses of mushrooms such as Common stinkhorn “eggs” and the Lithuanian love affair with False morels. The talk also follows an emerging conservation turn toward non-interference - where the most radical act of restoration is simply protecting old woods from logging and letting them become ancient on their own terms\, creating space for rare fungi to persist and be discovered.
